Allergies ‘n stuff
My son has been battling something for a while and we couldn’t really pin-point what… finally, I decided we needed to do an allergy test. So, about a week ago he had a blood test ran to see if he was allergic to anything.
I got the results back a few days later and he did test positive for several allergens. In a way, I was glad the test came back positive because it meant we’d have some answers and could move forward on helping him. But, obviously I was sad to see he had a list of allergies.
Anyway, he has an extremely high allergy to dust mites. His second highest allergy was to dog dander… and he had a low allergy to cat dander, pollen, Maple trees, White Ash trees, Elm trees, Hickory trees, grass and ragweed. His doc said the pollen/grass/ragweed was the least and wasn’t really high enough to cause much issue.
My house is pretty clean. It isn’t the cleanest, I’m sure… but I’m pretty decent with keepin’ it up. I have been busting my butt the last week or so doing more cleaning, deeper cleaning… doing everything I can do to help his dust mite allergy. The doc said we wouldn’t have to get rid of our beloved pets but to keep an eye on him to make sure his allergies don’t worsen and keep doing everything I can do keep the pet dander down.
I’ve bought him an allergy mattress cover, pillows… and other things. I hope that is will help. I read (from MomCentral) approximately 15 percent of the population suffers from allergies to cats and dogs, and 10 percent to dust mites. Sadly, my son has to be in that percentage (and I’m sure several of you all reading this, too).
Also, I’ve been using a product that was new to me. Clorox® Anywhere® Anti-Allergen Fabric Spray. The product deactivates pet dander and dust mite matter by up to 90 percent and has absolutely no smell. I plan to continue using it, in efforts to minimize the allergens in my home. I hope to see a big difference in him, soon!
I, to my knowledge, am not allergic to anything. I’ve never suffered from the symptoms of any, at least. If any of you have any wonderful tips to share that will help me with his allergies – do share! I’m all ears (or would that be eyes).
