My version of October
So there’s only one day left for September. Tomorrow, October will come knocking at the door whether I like it or not. And being someone who comes from a tropical country, who finds oneself in a temperate country, the thought of October coming might be a bittersweet one.
The last October I had in a temperate country was 1999 in Osaka. And still, Osaka never reaches below 0 degrees Celsius in the winter. October isn’t even a time for sweaters. But now I am in Buffalo and it is 6 degrees Celsius, and you got the wind blowing too.
It is all a mental thing I guess. Mind over matter, after all. As long as you got the right paraphernalia, then you’d be fine. I try to look at it as a change, a change from the constant heat and humidity that I was exposed to in Manila for the past four years.
Besides, what can one do but cope with it?
Whining won’t stop the weather from being cold, would it?
I guess that is the main difference between me and my sister. Whenever there is a problem that we face, I shut up and think of solutions, while she takes the time to whine and hope that the problem will fade away. But that is not being pragmatic. Whining won’t solve problems. But looking for solutions will.
Oops, when did this guest post regarding October turn into an epistemic one? I guess this illustrates the stream-of-consciousness characteristic of human thinking.
Well, there you have it. My guest post. Many thanks to PM for this opportunity.
