Oh, just some movie ratings…

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Late nights, my husband and I like to watch movies. We were watching a couple a week but when Summer arrived we put our queue on hold for three months and didn’t watch anything. Now, we’re back to watching them again (well, as of last month). Here is my little ratings, for what they are worth.

Larry The Cable Guy’s Health Inspector - not nearly as good as I expected. I don’t mine the juvenile things or some stupidity - I actually love Larry. However, the movie only gets three of five stars from me.

Final Destination 3 - This was pretty good. I didn’t really like part one, part two rocked. This was better than part one but maybe not as good as part two - I’m not sure. It was a cool flix tho. I gave it four of five stars.

Hostage - First, I love Bruce Willis. I really liked this movie. I gave this four of five stars, too. I’d watch it again, for sure.

Silent Hill - OK, this was just weird. I mean, it was a pretty good show but some of it totally did not make sense to me. I mean, maybe it wasn’t suppose to. Not sure. I do not like the way it ended. I just found it strange. I think it failed to live up to my expectations. I gave this three of five stars.

The Benchwarmers - Well, this was better than I expected. I was not happy with a couple of things (unnecessary language, etc) but overall - decent flix. Not nearly as stupid as I thought. I give it 3.5 stars.

RV - This gave me a giggle or two but I totally didn’t like this DVD. I found it a waste. It did not live up to the expectations I had by viewing the previews/trailer. I wouldn’t recommended it. I give this bad boy only two stars.

The Usual Suspects - Better than expected. I didn’t think I would like it… but I did. I don’t think it’s all that as some said it was but it was worthy of watching. I think it may be worth four stars.

Se7en - Totally loved this movie. I was able to predict the very end as I was watching but that didn’t keep me from watching. Have you saw this, about the seven deadly sins? You should watch it. I think I’ll give it four and a half stars.

United 93 - Pretty good remake. I don’t really know what else to say. I wasn’t really impressed by the movie but if it’s only purpose was to remake the action, it did that. It was more so a documentary type movie - which I don’t normally like. I give this 3 stars. I feel it could have been better.

Failure to Launch - I didn’t know what to expect with this one but it was good. I don’t think the reviews will reflect that - but I didn’t find it a waste to rent. I was able to “get into” it and it kept my interest. I think it should have almost four stars.

Man on Fire - I loved this. I had no idea how to predict the events except for one, about Dakota Fanning. She really is a great kid to watch on TV. I’d recommend this. I give it 5 stars. Not really on all the acting itself but the movie overall.

Stay Alive - Watched this Monday. I thought it was good. Pretty interesting events going on… the effects were pretty cool. Great new flix. I give it a four.

Cellular - We watched this last night. I really did like this. Not sure why I just now rented it but anyway. It wasn’t all uptight and made me laugh during certain events. I don’t think Kim Basinger is that great but she pulled off the ending well, I think. One thing that sucked me into this movie was how soon the first major “event” happened. I’d recommended it. I give this flix 4 stars and a quarter.

Yeah, that is a lot of movies since September. Wow.

Click is due to arrive tomorrow. Lookin’ forward to that!! Have you watched it? Was it really good?! An American Haunting and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties will be after that.

Toddles, gotta go pick up my daughter.

Two movies I want to see…

American Haunting and United 93.

I really look forward to watching American Haunting. It’s a horror based on a true story. I don’t hear any hype about it unlike the United 93 film. Perhaps because it’s and non-terror related (it’s Supernatural) and about something from hundreds of years ago vs. 5 years. To me, they are both movies that I think will be awesome and I want to see them.

Another reason I want to see American Haunting is because I’ve been to the location, walked through the Bell Witch’s cave, witnessed freaky things there, etc… I have the Bell family in my ancestry. I hope the movie isn’t disappointing - I don’t think it will be.

I won’t be watching United 93 to relive the terror and horror of September 11th. I know many will likely not want to watch it and that’s OK. The husband and I do - It’s said to be a real good film, one that shows great heroism. I just enjoy a great movie and want to watch it for that reason! Good films are always worth watching.

They make movies all the time in reflecting things that happen in the real world. I don’t watch them to see the world reflected- I watch them to watch a good film. I look forward to them. Speaking of watching movies, I’m watching Hostel and Love Actually this week. I am due a movie opinion post, soon.

What about you? Do you plan to watch American Haunting or United 93? I think both of them will be huge hits. I’m not wanting to debate the movie(s) but feel freel to share your opinions if you’d like.

*Edit - I will not be going to the theather to watch these flix. The drive-in, maybe (if American Haunting is shown there), but likely will wait for them on DVD. Most comments mentioned theaters - so just so you know, I didn’t mean theater.

Sharin’ some reviews….

Oh man, the weather sure has turned nice here in middle TN! 80’s and sun - it’s bliss. 89 for today… Due to the lovely weather, I’ve spent less time online as I’ve been outside enjoying life. I noticed yesterday I went over the 6,000 comment mark. Y’all rock, really - you do! Thanks for all you contribute here. Also… new poll is up on the sidebar. Looks as if dark chocolate was the winner of the chocolate poll and I was the only one who voted “I don’t like chocolate”. Imagine that. Thought I’d post my reviews so here they are…

Movies we’ve watched this past month:

Saw 2 (2005) - Interesting twist in the story line but Saw was much better than Saw 2. It was good but not good enough, I was disappointed a bit or perhaps my expectations were just too high. Lesson here, it pays to sit and listen. I rate it 3 of 5 stars.

Just Like Heaven (2005) This was a really good movie - better than I expected, actually. I thought it was unique, had a good story line and some good effects. Some of it made me think “yeah right” but it certainly didn’t take away from the movie. I would guess it’s considered a chick flix - but my husband really liked it, too. Somethings are just meant to be, you’ll see. I rate it 4 of 5 stars.

Sky High (2005) This is a kid movie but good enough for a 30 something couple. The husband and I watched it without the kids (they watched it after us, on another day). I was actually entertained and don’t consider this film just for the young ones. Disney did a great job. It did exceed my expectations (they weren’t too high as I totally wasn’t interested until I watched it). I thought the message the kid (Wil) did a great job with the story line on sidekicks and heroes - which is a lesson many should learn. 3.5 stars, maybe 4.

Walk The Line (2005) I really wanted to see this film. I really liked it, a lot but it didn’t exceed my expectations. While this movie has a focus more on he and June and left out some great detail, I still think it was worth watching. I think the the role of Johnny was well played by Phoenix and Witherspoon didn’t do too shabby as June. More music and life information would have made it better as Johnny Cash has more to tell than this movies tells. 4 stars.

Identity (2003) This is a good thriller that may keep you guessing. I had the killer pinned at one point but the husband didn’t think I was correct so I kept tryin’ to pin the killin’ on someone else and truth be known, I was right. I didn’t think the movie had enough details tho… and it definitely ended as if part two would be right behind it but I don’t think there is a part two and it’s 3 years later… it can get confusing and definitely needed something else to help clarify things but overall without picking it apart, I liked it a lot and give it a weak 4 stars.

Jarhead (2005) - I somehow expected it to be really good… I was wrong. The movie itself was good at times and I didn’t find it to be a total waste but then it just ended and it seems as if nothing really happened. The acting and whatnot was good, the storyline was there but I felt there should have been more. I could have done without the vomit. The husband agrees - we compared real military to the movie while watching it (well, mostly him, as he was the active duty one)… 3 of 5 stars.

Flightplan (2005) - Really good. It wasn’t much of a thriller, actually I wouldn’t consider it a thriller at all. I never suspected the girl dead… it lacked some detail and the suspense level was low but even with all that and a few bad actors I like this. Might make you think twice. I give this 3.5 stars.

That’s all for now… anyone majorly agree or disagree with me?

Flix Reviews: My T’s and O’s

My thoughts and opinions on recently watched movies.

Pickin’ up where I left off

A Room with A View, 1986 - an old film. I am not sure why I thought this would be good or why I’d be interested in it. I totally didn’t like this movie. It was just not my “style”, too boring… but if you wanna see some nekkid dudes there are some in this flick. Muahaha. I understand the low rating now.

Must Love Dogs, 2005 - I gave this movie 3 stars. It isn’t a top notch flick. I don’t think it was a bad film but I do think it could have been better. Typical romantic comedy that is predictable. You’ve got Mail is a better choice for an Internet dating movie.

Red Eye, 2005 - I gave this one 3 stars, too. I really liked it as there was some great action scenes. It wasn’t much of a thriller to me - more action - likely because it takes a lot of thrill to thrill me (ha). It was worth renting.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven
, 2004. I gave this one 5 stars. I thought it was really good. I was interested throughout the film and thought the story line was great. The question that he was asking all along to his 5 people was one that I already predicted the answer to. I have not read the book so I can’t compare it.

Saw, 2004 - I hadn’t watched this yet (’til now) and I have Saw 2 sittin’ on the TV so I had to watch this one first. I’d give this 4 stars. I thought it was a great horror film. It was pretty gross but I guess that is why it’s good. I was surprised about the “dead guy” in the room… this movie has some twist and interesting story line. Now, I am lookin’ forward to part 2 and will likely watch it tonight.

The next few in line are, as mentioned, Saw 2 and Just Like Heaven (both sittin’ on the TV), Sky High and Walk The Line. If you know of any good flix that recently came out or even a really good one from the past year or so - let me know. My queue is getting low.
