Tribute to Punkin In Memory of my beloved Punky

Hard day for me… Yesterday, I lost something I love more than a lot of things in this world, my sweet Punky - whom I’ve had longer than my children. We buried her last night. It was so difficult. Will be hard adjusting to life without her - my home feels empty now. Thanks to all who’ve previously commented with their thoughts, prayers, hugs, sent ecards, etc. It’s very much appreciated. The above photos are scrapbook pages I made for her, in memory. Click for a larger view, if you wish.

Please visit & comment the site of the day: Lil Duck Duck.

  16. 16. Comment by Irish Church Lady (8 comments.):

I am so sorry about Punkin. Your tribute in the scrapbooking pages is so beautiful and the writing made me cry.

I lost my first cat, Clancy, over 11 years ago. He is buried in our backyard. I had him when I was single and he died when he was only 8 years old. I thought he was such a perfect cat, and still do, that it took me awhile before I was able to open my heart to another cat.

Eventually I did and now have 3, and although they don’t replace my perfect Clancy, they are great and unique in their own ways. All pets have such unique personalities which is what makes them so special. It is too bad that they don’t live longer. It is just like losing a family member.

    *hugs*

Oh I am so sorry about your cat. Shortly after our son died, we had a cat that died during birthing kitties and shortly after that a dog. It was all so hard on us. These animals sure hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for sharing about your cat.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a pet is hard.
My hubby & I got a cat when we were first together back in 1987.Believe it or not she lived until this past March.
It was so hard to lose her. She had been with us through EVERYTHING.
We still miss her & we always will.
    ((hugs)) to you.

  32. 32. Comment by srp (42 comments.):

I am so sorry about your dear Punkin. These furry creatures dig their way straight into the depths of your heart and when they go there is always a big hole left. I buried a beagle in Oklahoma and three Siamese while in Mississippi along with two bad but lovable mutts. It is never easy and they are never very far from my thoughts through the day. What a beautiful memory page you’ve made here.

  33. 33. Comment by Breigh (25 comments.):

Oh no I’m so sorry :( I’d absolutely die if I lost one of my pets. My cats are 10 years old now, so I know they are getting older and dread -that- time.

    I played this week too

I am so sorry to hear about Punkin :( She was such a beautiful cat, I thought she was just a kitten. I’m glad to know you had many wonderful years with her. I can only imagine how painful it is to lose such a beloved pet. My Nermal is only 4 years old, and I am already dreading the day I have to say goodbye. You made a beautiful tribute to her. Peace TNC.

  37. 37. Comment by Vash (40 comments.):

Take one day at a time. I’m so sorry for your loss.

  47. 47. Comment by Sandy (27 comments.):

You do not know how MUCH I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND how you feel!! On the 30th of December we had to bury our sweet red Lucy!! We had lost her for 4 weeks. I had prayed and prayed for her return. She was so sweet and long haired like your darling!! I still sit here and cry for her. She was a red green eyed maine coon. She loved life and loved us. She was only 3. She was an inside/outside cat. We had looked and looked for her. Finally, just last weekend our good neighbor found her in her fenced in backyard. She had tried to get home!! My husband and I bawled trying to bury her. I now have my closure but it is nice to know that someone really understands my grief. I am so very sorry for your loss. Sandy

  48. 48. Comment by Gattina (9 comments.):

What sad news, I am so sorry for you ! But at least you can write about it and share your grief. Since 1966 I had a cat the first one shared my life during 20 years, one died after 9 and the last one in 2005 after 19 years, but I am still unable to write about him. But it’s already a good sign that I tell you that, so maybe I can do it this year. Now I have my four cats, but the 3 which I had to put asleep will always remain in my heart and this will be the same for you. It’s the first weeks which are the most awful.

  49. 49. Comment by Beckie (39 comments.):

TN your pages are BEAUTIFUL~very fitting tribute to your loved one!

  50. 50. Comment by Terri DuLong (23 comments.):

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Words really aren’t adequate at a time like this. I lost my Angus a year ago Nov. (a 13 yr. old Scotish Fold) so I know the heartache you’re feeling. My thoughts are with you. What a beautiful tribute to a gorgeous cat.

  51. 51. Comment by Debbie (34 comments.):

  53. 53. Comment by Caylynn (22 comments.):

So sorry to hear about your loss. :( Losing a pet is never easy - I lost my Whiskers just this past September, so I feel your pain. Punkin’ and Whiskers are now waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge.

Beautiful scrapbook pages in tribute to your Punkin’. She was a beautiful cat.

My “memory” is very similar - a tribute to Whiskers.

Your Punkin’s such a beautiful cat and she was very much loved and cared for and you both were very lucky to have had each other all of these years. Prayers to you and your family as you mourn the loss of your precious pet.

  59. 59. Comment by Jane (49 comments.):

I am so sorry for your loss. I had my cat for 20 years and when she died it was truly the loss of a family member. They say that the loss of a pet is indeed harder than a human loss. Your scrapbook pages are beautiful. My prayers are still with you.

There is a special story about her on my blog under “Princess Lacey”. Great memory!

I really can’t add much to all of the thoughts others have left for you, except to say I know how you feel. I’m actually sitting here in tears remembering feeling exactly as I know you feel right now.

  72. 73. Comment by Thumper (30 comments.):

Oh man…I am so sorry. It doesn’t matter how many times we have to go through it, it hurts every time one of those little furry people goes off to the Rainbow Bridge. When my kitty Dusty died 5 years ago, I couldn’t even go down the pet food aisle for a while, which wasn’t so helpful for the dog… I dread that the day will come with Max and with Buddah, my 2 crazy kitties. It just doesn’t seem fair, that they don’t live as long as we do…

  73. 74. Comment by mymommysplace (36 comments.):

  76. 77. Comment by gab (6 comments.):

I’m so sorry for your loss. I dont know what I’ll do when the day comes that I lose either of my “babies” Puff or Pumpkin. They are so much like my children. I do understand though about your house being empty. I went through that 11 years ago after both of my cats then had to be put down for different reasons. I had had both of them for 16 years. My house was so empty until puff came into it a year later. Then Pumpkin 4 years later.

Words can not bring your sweet Punky back to you. But all catlovers in the World understand your feelings and will do what they can to share you up.

It’s a very clever idea to create a scrapbook for each cat. Everyone who have lost their sweet and lovely cat, knows that. Many too late.

Luckely we have many pictures of our late cats - all of them killed on the same road late Fall, when the cats followed after the mice down to the sea. People had seen it, and throwed the dead bodies into the sea. How gruesome humans can be. What we did, after every tragic, was to have a new one as soon as possible. And now well aware alle the dangers in a cats life, we allways have two (Manx) cats.

I’m not good enough in English to express with words my feelings for your loss. Just have Punky in your memories for ever.

I am so sorry you lost Punky so soon. That really hurts for me hearing this. I can not even imagine how this is for you. Thanks for sharing and, even though I don’t really know you … *hugs*.

This is a real wrong time to bring this up but thank you. The themes you put up are great the way you leave them so open ended. This week for instance you could have said memories. Instead you said memory which allowed me to twist it just a little. I do appreciate what you have done with the themes and the whole hunt.

I hope you will feel better soon and it is key to remember Punky will be there whenever you think of them. One of my favorite Star Trek:TMG episode had someone die in it and they said “Death is that state where one lives only in the memory of others, which is why it is not an end. No goodbyes–just good memories”. I so want to have that played at a wake when I die.

    Take care.

Holy Cow! 101 comments so far. Look at that support! Such a great memorial in a hard time. I went through the same type of thing on a birthday in my 20’s when I came home on my birthday (Jan 12th) to find my dog in the same state. He knew he was dying and said goodbye one early morning but it was enough that he knew he would say goodbye with me there by his side as he put his head up one last time to let me know he was saying goodbye… Still makes me tear up inside.

Keep your chin up! I know nothing will replace her but maybe you can get another to fill the void!

This is the first time that I have taken part, but I enjoyed it.

Oh man, :( I’m so sad for you all. This was so not what I was expecting to read. It’s been forever since I read about you and today happened to be the day I picked. I’m so incredibly sorry.

    *hugs*
