If I only had a brain…
Well, gee. Not long ago I ranted about loosing my ancestry file. I’ve been workin’ on rebuilding that over the past two weeks. I rebuilt about 1,000 family members on that file with all the details.
Last night, guess what? I was cleanin’ my desktop and there was this file with a name like 3452789 and I put it in the recycle bin not thinkin’ about what it was…. and emptied it. Guess what else? It was my NEW ancestry file I just remade. I forgot the program gave it a default name like 3452789. OMWord. I noticed about the second it deleted. I am so mad at myself. So, today, I’m attempting to recover the deleted file. So far, I’ve been unsuccessful. I can’t believe I deleted that freakin’ file. &%$#$#@!

Oh.NO!!! I am so sorry to hear that you have deleted the file…I sure hope you can do something to recover it. I am not sure what you could though…I’ll check with hubby.

Oh, I feel for you. I have lost my geneology files quite a few times…most because hubby killed my computer (or his). I have mine backed up now though. I dont know if system restore might help or not but it is an idea.

If you have ever uploaded it onto the ancestry site or rootsweb.com you should be able to download it again. I burn everything to disk every 6 mos and date and store it. I have also printed up the fairly large families and sent to relatives and exchanged gedcoms with those able to use them so hopefully I will never lose those files again. The man I am married to deleted on purpose all of mine one time. I learned.
