Home Grown
I am lovin’ all the maters (umm, tomatoes) from the garden, lately. They complete every meal. If my daughter goes with me to pick them, she eats all she picks! I don’t blame her, I think I could live off home grown tomatoes!
We have had more Roma’s than any other type… but the others are startin’ to produce a lot, too. The late plants have a lot of new little ones, so I think they’ll do well. If you don’t grow your own tomatoes, you don’t know what you’re missing. Mmm…
Question: Have you ever ate a fried green tomato? If so, do you like them or not?

I’m a disgrace to my Southern heritage and have never even tried fried green tomatoes. I may have to rectify that soon.

I enjoy eating home grown stuff too. Especially tomatoes…but we haven’t had much success with them here in the desert – the best things that grow here are oranges, herbs and cubumbers.
As for fried green tomatoes – nope haven’t tried them yet, but wouldn’t mind trying them…

I wish I could have all that space where I can also plant some vegetables instead of buying them all in the market. That is what I’m missing….having to grow my own vegetables.

Ahh tomatoes are so tasty.
I wish I was able to grow them in my yard, just don’t have the patience I guess.

my little yellow pear maters are doing the best. I to have been eating my maters like crazy. I LOVE home grown maters… There is nothing like it.
I tried making fried green tomatoes years ago after watching the movie..lol I just breaded then with cornmeal. They were not so great..lol I need to try one by someone that knows what they are doing.
Do you have a good recipe?

I have had fried green tomatoes and wasn’t all that impressed. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t all WOW FANTASTIC either.
Have you tried fried green peppers? Lightly fried and sprinkled with some confectioners (not a lot) sugar. It’ll surprise you…

I LOVE fried green tomatoes! *yum!*
Roma’s are my hubby’s fav. kind – so he’d be all about your garden! I’m really hoping to get a small garden next year! What else are you growing??

My maters bit the dust. Wasn’t too heart broken being that they volunteered from above the (as we discovered) busted septic tank. Can you say Yummy?

I love them!!! But sad to say it has been awhile since I have made them, however, I do love ‘mater samwiches with mayo! Lucky you…our ‘mater garden is still sitting in the bucket…in the seed packet…in the garage…

Hey Chick, I’m glad yours are doing good, mine have been small but very good, not like last year when we had more than enough and very big. We had plenty of rain at first, but it has been more miss than hit this year. It seems like it hits the Sumner county line and takes a u-turn away from us. We have not had any rain to amount to anything since May.

I went blueberry picking once and my cousin and I kept eating them off the vine. We were told not to but I didn’t realise until years later that you’re not supposed to because you pay for them by weight at the end!
I lurve tomatoes. Don’t have a yard to grow them in, would probably kill them if I did!
