Remembering Peter Bielfeld (4/21/57 – 9/11/01)
Peter Alexander Bielfeld, 44, member of Ladder 42, died a hero in the line of duty at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He was a member of FDNY for 19.5 years and remembered as someone who layed down his life for others. Today, I honor him.

I made this layout to honor him. Kit Credits: A Touch of Vintage by Jean
Mr. Bielfeld was born in Munich Germany, April 21, 1957. He was known as Petey. He played football and had a partial football scholarship at Wesley College in Del. After he died, the school retired his jersey, #42.
Peter Bielfeld was a beloved son and a loving father of one daughter. He was a devoted brother of two siblings. He was a brother-in-law, cousin and cherished uncle.
His first job was working alongside his father, as a paper handler, at The Daily News. All he wanted to be was a fireman. He joined the fire department in 1982, and worked at Ladder Company 42 in the Bronx. On Sept. 11, he was on medical leave, but that didn’t stop him. He borrowed someones gear and left a note at his locker. It said to return the gear back to the owner and give the note to family, if he didn’t return.
Many miss seeing him standin’ outside the fire station smokin’ a cigar or walking with his daughter. Friends, family, neighbors and even strangers have said these things about him:
-Missed and never forgotten. A a true hero. I am lucky to have known him.
-A great person, friend, son, father, brother, and especially firefighter.
-May you continue to be a guiding force for me.
-Your daughter is so big now. She looks so much like you.
-Duty, Honor, Valor, Bravery, words only defined through actions of those like Peter.
-Peter Bielfeld went beyond doing the right thing, even when nobody was looking.
-Peter Bielfeld stands as a Saint in the Halls of Freedom.
-Thanks for looking out for me and my family.
Mr. Peter Bielfeld is missed but not forgotten. He has a mural painting in NY, the corner of 156th and Union Streets. You can read stories about him here The Last Firefighter and I am Peter Bielfeld.
Today, honor this man. All those who died with him on September 11, 2001 need honor. Today, do that. Read tributes for all 2996 victims here.

You did a great job of honoring this fireman. He sounds like he was a real asset to his fire company. I’m sure his family misses him greatly. I honor him and all the others that died that horrid day. Thanks.

I hope the family of Peter Bielfeld knows that you have written such a beautiful tribute to their husband, father, son, and friend. By coming in while on sick leave to serve during this emergency shows what this man was made of. Your tribute pays homage to this hero. Thank you for sharing this with the world.

I love your layout– I did one as well for my person- to put in my “Book of Me” as something that … is a part of me. Did you feel like me– after “researching” him that you know him, he’s a friend?
Mine is up also.

tnchick,
Thanks for dropping by Sanity’s Bluff and the tribute there to one of 2,996. It will take effort, but I want to visit all of the blogs that took the time to honor the victims of that horrible day.
tnchick, your tribute was very good, no, it was excellant. I couldn’t seem to make my tribute concise, that is just me, a rambling blogger of a truck driver.
Will check out your blog in the future. Phew, we’ve spent a lot of time on this project, but it is worth it.
I have found a whole new blogroll of sorts……anyone taking the time to honor someone we lost on that day……will be applauded by this old man.
So I applaud you tnchick…..way to go.
Yes, a very good job tnchick, (must mean lady from tennessee)
I am keeping track of all this great memorial blogging, and have met a lot of great people because of this effort.
Gotta go, John, (aks webloafer)
