Blah – stomach flu?

I think I know what I had. My Mom was very sick the day before I became sick. Her illness was much more severe than mine. She was OK yesterday – which is when I caught a touch of it.

It hit her again, last night. She was in much pain and went to the hospital. She hasn’t been sick like this in well over 10 years. Me? I don’t get sick often, either. I think I’ve been sick maybe 2 or 3 times in the past 10 years (including now) and only mild colds. Anyway – they told her she had the stomach flu. So, I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that’s what I caught.

The doctor at the hospital told her to not eat potatoes (ha – what I had for dinner as I thought it’d settle well) and no breads (I had bread, too). He told her a steak would be OK. Huh? Really? I was reading on some adult health site and it said no meat.

I’m starving as I haven’t ate much at all in over 24 hours. I was going to eat Chinese yesterday (was going to go light with some Lo Mein for dinner) but they were closed for renovations. Argh. Anyway, I feel better but still feel a bit blah and very hungry. I am not sure what to eat as I don’t want it to start up all over again…. Ugh.

Start with clear brothy soup or jello (stuff you can see thru), then move up thru the ranks (thick liquids–stuff you can’t see thru, soft foods) then start adding high-protein and spices.

Alternatively, start with the BRAT-Bananas, Apples, Rice and Tea.

I’ve sure never heard of Steak for a stomach flu. That’s a bit scary, isn’t it? My thought is to eat what you feel like. You know, what you’re pretty sure will stay down. No, I’m not a Dr and I didn’t even stay in the Holiday Inn last night..geeze. Take care and I hope whatever you do works..

I really hope you’re feeling better now! I hate stomach flu’s and I always get them… ugh.

The doc’s advice sounded really weird in my ears. For me potatoes really works.

Over here they usually gives these advices, things to eat – in that order:

    Coke without the carbonic acid
(stirred or with some water to take it away)
Tea with some rusk or toasts
    Cooked rice
    Blueberry soup
    Scramled eggs
    Cooked carrots
    Peeled and grated apple
    Cooked fish or meat

Some of them is to calm down the stomach, some is just mild, others is to get it going again.

Something that is outstanding when it comes to get the stomach to stop feeling sick and start acting normal again is medical coal pills, if you got it in US. It have been a lifesaver for me a lot of times when I’ve been close to giving up. I guess it neutralizing the stomach somehow. Easy to have with you on a trip too… They saved me on our South America trip last time.

    Take care and get well!

Oh, and if you’ve lost too much fluid, you can get it back by fix and drink this fluid replacement:

1 liter water (about 4-4,5 cup?)
    6 teaspoons (30 ml) sugar
    1/2 teaspoon (2,5 ml) salt

Be careful not to take too much salt. Cook up the fluid and then let it cool off. You can flavour it with two teaspoons of fruitjuice concentrate to make it taste better.

Fluid is very important for a fast recovery.

(Could come in handy some other time otherwise OR if your children gets the same… No, we forbid that!)

I know it doesn’t sound great, but crackers should be fine for you to eat.
    I wish I could squish the bug…

Hope you’re feeling better soon. I had something last week that pretty much sucked the energy out of me, made my stomach hurt like crazy. I couldn’t eat a thing, and all I did was feel like sleeping.

You better eat skinny bones, you can’t afford to lose anymore weight. Get well soon.

Steak? Yikes, first time I’ve heard that. I’m rarely sick too, in fact the last time (and that was only a mild cold) was about 3 years ago. When I had stomach flu, which was probably about 20 years ago, the doctor told me to drink and not eat for at least 2 days, and then only soup for another 2 days. It worked :)
