Funky Weather and Flix

The weather sure is funky. Today we have a nice 67 (though it is a bit too windy) but come this weekend we are expecting some more flurries and snow. The highs for Sat. and Sun are suppose to be 30! I’m ready for Spring. I don’t mind the snow but these cold temps we’re expecting stink!

We’ve watched several movies in the past couple of weeks. A recap along with my opinions [without spoiling the film for those who haven’t watched], in short.

Wedding Crashers-I thought this movie was bad. Perhaps it’s OK but I didn’t like it, really. The beginning of the movie was horrible and boring. It’s only OK because it did improve near the middle/end of the show. While it did have some good/funny scenes in it, I would not watch it again. I was expecting so much more, so much better. The husband agrees.

Fever Pitch with Drew Barrymore - I thought this was a really good flix. I’d watch it again. It was much better than Wedding Crashers. I thought the movie holds truth to real life and would be good for those who are obsessive with something like Jimmy Fallon was with the Red Sox. The husband and I both enjoyed this romantic comedy.

Crash - this movie was about racism and was actually really good. I won’t lie - it did make me cry. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was definately worth watching. The actors did a fantastic job in the drama in this film. I don’t view this as a typical movie, meaning the way the story line falls isn’t what I’m use to… but overall I’d recommend you watch this flix if you haven’t. The husband agrees on this flix, as well. Certain scenes of the movie really grab your attention.

The 40 Year Old Virgin - This was a tad different than we expected - while it is not worthy of 4 or 5 stars it was an OK movie minus the gazillion times I heard the word fuck. There were some funny parts and some stupid parts but it wasn’t a waste of time watchin’ it. We both thought it was just OK.

Asylum - I thought this would be better than it was, as did he. While it was Ok it didn’t meet my expectations. A great deal of time would pass between scenes not letting you know how much time actually passed, which left me wondering how long, etc. The movie was OK, but certainly not worthy of 5 stars. The movie is a drama and was good enough to keep us awake and a few turn of events at the end surprised us. That’s about it. I didn’t like the way the movie ended. It wasn’t keeping me on the edge of my seat which was disappointing.

…and now you know my thoughts.

Tonnight we’re watchin’ an older movie, A Room With a View. I am not sure how it’ll be. After that, our next five include: Must Love Dogs, Saw, The 5 People You Meet in Heaven, and Red Eye.

Final Destination 3 is out and I can’t wait to watch it!! I’m so excited about it’s release. I thought Part 1 was for the birds… but Final Destination 2 is a fave. I’m totally not a movie buff but I’m awaitin’ this one. Only one thing, the reviews on it, thus far, stink. I usually don’t agree with most so I hope for the best. Anyone saw this yet?!

There ya go…

Didn’t see 1, 2 & 5 - glad that I listened to my Sweetheart  Most of the time he reads about the plot and when we go to Hollywood Video, we pick what ever is left for us to watch…

‘Crash’ - great story - held my attention the entire time - agree with your review. I think I would watch it again…

‘40-year-old-virgin’ - okay - not what I expected …I actually thought it was horrible - but then again - I am weird anyway.

‘A Room with a view’ - is that a remake of Hitchcock’s (sp?) movie?

‘Saw’ - slasher movie - my Sweetheart watched that by himself - he liked it.

‘Red Eye’ - expected more, wasn’t bad, but wouldn’t watch it again…Have to check out the others you have in que…

Replied: As you know I’m not a bookworm so all I know is it says “E.M. Forster’s turn-of-the-century novel about Edwardian manners is expertly adapted for the screen.”

oh my god PM!! I loved wedding crashers! My husband and I went to the theatre with another couple to see this, and I swear we were all laughing so hard we all had sore tummys!
Fever Pitch was boring. I love Drew.. but DUDE too much baseball!
    Haven’t seen crash.
40 year old virgin blew goats. It was boring, and just profane. Nothing funny.
Asylum wasn’t what i thought it would be either. I think they must have had different writters for the previews then they had for the film.
Must love dogs is one on my to watch list, you’ll have to let me know your thoughts.
I watched FD2 after my mom raved about it. it was pretty freaky, but it was good enough for a chicken like me!

One of my friends wants to treat me to “The Pink Panther,” which I’ve been waiting to see since last year. I’m a fan of Kevin Kline and Steve Martin, so I’m anxious to see how they reprise Peter Sellers’ old role.

It was 85 today, but we finally are getting a taste of winter with an artic front that is dropping our high to 39 tomorrow with a chance of ice.

    Weird weather, for sure.

Oh you are so teasing me when you narrate your movies. The last movie I saw was “A History of Violence” in the student theatre. I just don’t have the time to watch movies. I miss the weekly movies that me and my sister used to have when I was still in Manila.

Oh, and be contented that you’re expecting 30 for the weekend. Here in the BUF, we’re expecting 15!

And why is it that you’re comments are supposed to be a pop-up window, but it doesn’t pop up? So I right click it and open a new window manually. Is it because I am using Firefox?

I thought 40 year old virgin was really funny - but they did drop too many unnecessary F-bombs.

You are a fan of the Final Destination movies? I’m not. I think they’re kinda goofy.

    I might check out “Asylum”

    simply not edible Says:

Not a movie buff? You actually list more movies here than I’ve seen since August (at least).

Then again, maybe I’m just off.

Replied: I watch them but I don’t know actors by name, etc… only a select few. Also, after I watch it - I can’t tell people all that happened unless it is right after the movie. I can’t/don’t remember lines… I just watch the flix and move on. Movie buff - is someone like my husband… he knows all the actors, etc… he can tell me what movie I speak of when I mention a scene, he can quote lines, etc….

I am so glad I am not that only one who didn’t like The 40-Year-Old Virgin! So many of my friends recommended it to me, and then it just kind of sucked.

    Becky Says:

I think one of the reasons I liked 40 Year Old so much is that I keep meeting that guy:) I did like Wedding Crashers, too, but I often wonder if I find myself laughing at comedies more in the theatre than if I were to see them for the first time on DVD. I’ve seen all the ones on your upcoming list, so I’ll be interested to see if we continue to have the same taste.
