From cable woes to EHD issues…

Anyone familiar with external hard drive issues?

Mine started makin’ this funny sound and it is not recognized on my PC any longer… I assume it’s safe to say something is wrong but I have no idea if it’s minor or major? I hope I can save the data on it - anyone know?

Sorry to hear that you are now experiencing trouble with your external hard-drive.
I am sorry that I don’t know how to recover data from such a drive…I hope you will be able to.

    (((hugs)))

Mine was acting funky yesterday (a MyBook) and my Mac would not recognize it. Finally, we had to unplug ALL cords from it (power and the data cord) and reboot it. AND reboot my laptop. Then plugged power into the MyBook. Then after everything was up and running (and no longer starting things) we connected the MyBook and the laptop and everything is fine. They just weren’t playing nice and needed a time out.
    Worth a try anyway!!

It looks like you’ll need an engineer there.

One of my 125 gb external hard drives crashed and I spent $300 having a professional recover the files. I got most of them back.

Before you spend that kind of money, however, you might want to try a couple of programs on your own. EasyRecovery Data Recovery as is Recover My Files (found here http://www.recovermyfiles.com/). If you need further help, don’t hesitate to e-mail me and I’ll try to assist.

What JHS said, however if you don’t want to spend the money on software; hit up a torrent instead. http://www.utorrent.com is a free/nice client, install and search for data recovery.

BTW, torrents are the modern day equivalent to napster back in the day.

    Good luck.

    one word. DiskWarrior!

i’ve had several external drives that have had corrupt sectors, or even just died.. but diskWarrior has saved my life several times over. :-)

(and sorry.. if you don’t have a mac, you’ll have to search for another program that will run on a microsoft-run machine. and even then.. i’d suggest finding someone with a mac to recover your data)
