PhotoHunt 54: Steps

PhotoHunters

About | Theme: Steps | Roll

Photo Hunter of the Day: As The Rose Wilts. She has a different view on steps. Go comment, Ok? Thanks!!

I’m posting early - they likely are not. The Newbies: Prudence, HijackQueen, hanneng, Dexie, Jennifer, Nina, SassyMom, Ashley, alisonwonderland, nurul, Ilse, MsLovely101, and Lucy. If I forgot someone - I’m sorry, just let me know (but, I think I got all the new folks!)

Today you just get a random photo that had steps in it. I’ve been busy this week and didn’t have time to plan a better photo. I did survive my dentist appt. yesterday… Anyway - this photo is of what use to be my great-grandmother’s house. She passed away just over ten years ago. I drove by her house, in downtown Nashville, about a week or so ago and wow it’s changed. Changed color, landscaping, fencing, and even removed a door. Anyway - I thought it was neat she had steps up into her yard… can you see ‘em? Some folks down there have a much higher set of steps… I wouldn’t like that, at all.

I’m up waaaaay early this week too! Lots going on! The home I grew up in was much like that - with the steps up into the yard — we had about a 12 set though! And the bank was all covered in ivy! :)

  4. 4. Comment by Ilse (6 comments.):

    Hey all,

I’ve posted my first photo for the photo hunt. Actually you want really see steps, but the photos I have tell a story why you don’t see any steps. I’ve posted a layout I made from our holiday in Italy about 3 years ago. We have spent one day in Pisa. Of course we visit La Plaza del Duomo, in short Pisa plaza. I chose, however, not to visit the tower itself. It had way to many steps to climb for me that day. Since it was more then 35 degree Celcius and it were several hundreds of steps, I was just not going to do that. That’s what’s captured with these photos.
You can view it here: http://www.ilsesjournal.com/2007/04/photo_hunt_theme_steps.php
    Thanks for looking.

Happy hunting everyone! I’ll be visiting when I get back.

A question since I’m pretty new at the game myself: Is the “Photo Hunter of the day” selected based on the previous or current week’s submission? Was thinking the former before the comments about As the Rose Wilts’s steps…

  31. 31. Comment by Bengbeng (18 comments.):

This week my steps is from a rural Iban longhouse 2 hrs drive into the interior from Sibu, Borneo. It is basically a farming community. Do pay my blog a visit :)

  33. 33. Comment by eph2810 (310 comments.):

TNChick - that looks really beautiful though. With all the green bushes..I kinda like the steps. Gives a little ‘privacy’ from the sidewalk.

I am so glad that your dentist appointment went okay :) - I hope that was for the next six months. Or do you have to go back?

Hope you will have a wonderful Saturday.

That must be bittersweet looking at your great-grandmother’s house knowing that someone else is living there. I do not look forward to the day in which that happens to my grandmother’s house. Thank you for sharing such a touching photo.

Mine’s up, too! And all that I can say is, “I love Paris in the Springtime…” :-)

  42. 42. Comment by Linda (31 comments.):

Looks like your grandmother had a very nice home. I have steps leading up to my yard from the road and they can be a real pain in the behind in the winter when things freeze over! Not to mention when you have to lug groceries into the house!

  43. 43. Comment by jmb (74 comments.):

Mine’s up. That’s a sad blast from the past, Tn but at least someone is lovingly caring for it.

  44. 44. Comment by Gattina (85 comments.):

I have far more steps to climb ! The steps to the Lion of Waterloo

    ****
In Brooklyn there are always steps leading to the entrance door and I saw that everywhere in England too. Maybe somebody took this style to Nashville ?

  45. 45. Comment by amy (25 comments.):

Oops. I mistyped my first response!~
PLease come visit and check out the Scavenger Hunt starting May 1st!

  46. 46. Comment by Allison (4 comments.):

I’m new! Thanks to Jenn in Holland I found out about you all and look forward to being a part of this.

The steps are at a converted factory about an hour from my house. There was a huge rain storm going on outside and the surrounding rivers were on the verge of flooding. I’m sure those steps have seen much more.

  47. 47. Comment by JHS (23 comments.):

Okay, my entry for this week’s photo hunt now up! Here’s hoping for as many visits and comments from my fellow Photo Hunters as I got last week! :)

  50. 50. Comment by Patricia (88 comments.):

I wouldn’t like to climb those steps every day, but I think it looks rather quaint. Your photo is interesting to me because I thought about trying to find one of my grandmother’s house because of the steps that led to her front porch, but then I would not have been the one to take the photo, so I changed my mind. I also thought about posting the photo I took of a secret service agent cleaning the steps to an outdoor stage for a campaign rally with paper towels, but didn’t want to set off any political storms. However, I’m not sure that my final choice of step photographs will be any less controversial! ;-) Have a great weekend and enjoy that new car!

  51. 51. Comment by Teena in Toronto (132 comments.):

  60. 60. Comment by srp (42 comments.):

My grandparents had a house similar to this with the steps up to a porch. It was the house my mother was born in. When we were in Roanoke for Grandma’s funeral we visited all their former homes as well as the home we lived in while there. So many memories!

  61. 61. Comment by Dragonheart (82 comments.):

I see the steps up to the yard! It looks like a lovely house. All that greenery is lovely.

    My steps are up. :)

  62. 62. Comment by Grandma Cathy (9 comments.):

About the baby shower, if you take several different chocolate candy bars, melt a portion of each one individually, put them in a baby diaper, with a # on the diapers. Then they have to guess what kind of candy bars are in each diaper. If you put them in the diaper right after you melt them and kind of smear it a little, it does look pretty nasty, but it was so fun to watch a bunch of women smelling baby diapers.

By the way my photo is up, hope you have a great weekend everyone!

  63. 63. Comment by Kerri (3 comments.):

What beautiful steps and greenery! Mine is up as well.

  64. 64. Comment by Steve Williams (2 comments.):

I certainly understand the way time constraints interfere with plans to create images. I love the hedges in the picture. It reminds me of yards in the neighborhood I grew up in.

My STEPS picture is up. Took a bit of searching through my collection of previously made pictures to find something on topic.

Friends of ours have their house up on a hill and just climbing up the steps to get to the front door is a workout itself. I played today too.

It’s always hard when someone makes changes to a house we remember a certain way.

I’ve got my “Steps” up today. I’m on the road and something goofy happened to the fonts. Dh (the tech geek) is at home and can’t help. But at least it’s posted! :)

  91. 91. Comment by Lynn (47 comments.):

  97. 97. Comment by Barbara H. (101 comments.):

We used to live on a street where everyone had steps from the sidewalk into their yard — it was kinda neat.

Glad your dentist appt. went well and is all over now. I need to get there myself but keep putting it off.

  98. 98. Comment by Toni (27 comments.):

I used to really like driving past houses I (or people I knew) had lived in. The changes were often surprising and usually for the better. Now it just reminds me how old I am that I’ve lived so many places. :)

I swear, I think you and that dentist need to work out some kind of investment plan. Seems like you’re paying for most of the BMW or the new x-ray lab he’s planning to buy! :)

Finally got mine up. Not very artistic, but kinda neat. Hubby replaced the steps to our front porch today, not knowing what this week’s Hunt was. So I took pics, hehe!

That’s a nice picture! I wish I was able to travel and take some pictures of a few buildings that are still standing that my grandmother lived in and went to church in. Oh well… I found a cute scrapbook page that I did about my youngest son climbing into and onto everything! I took a picture of the page and posted it. Hope you like it! (I also posted a picture last week for the photo hunt of hobby. I’m new at this, am I supposed to let you know every time I post a photo hunt picture?)
