PhotoHunt 54: Steps
Photo Hunter of the Day: As The Rose Wilts. She has a different view on steps. Go comment, Ok? Thanks!!
I’m posting early - they likely are not. The Newbies: Prudence, HijackQueen, hanneng, Dexie, Jennifer, Nina, SassyMom, Ashley, alisonwonderland, nurul, Ilse, MsLovely101, and Lucy. If I forgot someone - I’m sorry, just let me know (but, I think I got all the new folks!)
Today you just get a random photo that had steps in it. I’ve been busy this week and didn’t have time to plan a better photo. I did survive my dentist appt. yesterday… Anyway - this photo is of what use to be my great-grandmother’s house. She passed away just over ten years ago. I drove by her house, in downtown Nashville, about a week or so ago and wow it’s changed. Changed color, landscaping, fencing, and even removed a door. Anyway - I thought it was neat she had steps up into her yard… can you see ‘em? Some folks down there have a much higher set of steps… I wouldn’t like that, at all.

I’m up waaaaay early this week too! Lots going on! The home I grew up in was much like that - with the steps up into the yard — we had about a 12 set though! And the bank was all covered in ivy!
April 20th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Hey all,
I’ve posted my first photo for the photo hunt. Actually you want really see steps, but the photos I have tell a story why you don’t see any steps. I’ve posted a layout I made from our holiday in Italy about 3 years ago. We have spent one day in Pisa. Of course we visit La Plaza del Duomo, in short Pisa plaza. I chose, however, not to visit the tower itself. It had way to many steps to climb for me that day. Since it was more then 35 degree Celcius and it were several hundreds of steps, I was just not going to do that. That’s what’s captured with these photos.
You can view it here: http://www.ilsesjournal.com/2007/04/photo_hunt_theme_steps.php
Thanks for looking.
April 20th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Thanks for sharing the former home of your great grandmother. It looks very interesting from the outside and I’m sure it must be be lovely and cozy inside too.
April 20th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
A very friendly house that has a history for your family.
April 20th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

April 20th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
I’m up early too as we will be heading out early in the morning.
Great picture! Things really do change a lot. The house my grandparents living in while I was growing up is now a beauty shop. It was a little ways out of town but now it’s in town.
Happy hunting everyone! I’ll be visiting when I get back.
April 20th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Steps to a lovely home no doubt. I’m up, with a different take on the theme. Happy weekend.
April 20th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
I love overgrown hedges like that.. it looks so inviting to jump in them. Nice history on that house and sorry for your dental appt.
Mine is up and I’m excited to see everyone else!

April 20th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
It’s a lovely house. Seems like a cozy memories place.
I am up and with a little creative approach to the theme this week.
April 20th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
Change is never nice even more so when the memories then seem to be forever marred by it.

Happy Weekend.
My STEPS is posted.
April 20th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Just lovely, we used to live in an old house in L.A. that had about 10 steps before you reached the porch. Your picture kindda reminded me of it.
April 20th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
I have a “steps” photo up.
Thanks!
Randy

My photo is up! Please come and take a look at my steps!
April 20th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
A question since I’m pretty new at the game myself: Is the “Photo Hunter of the day” selected based on the previous or current week’s submission? Was thinking the former before the comments about As the Rose Wilts’s steps…
April 20th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
This week my steps is from a rural Iban longhouse 2 hrs drive into the interior from Sibu, Borneo. It is basically a farming community. Do pay my blog a visit
April 20th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Reminds me of homes in the suburbs of Chicago! My step photo is up!!
Happy Weekend to you!!
April 20th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
TNChick - that looks really beautiful though. With all the green bushes..I kinda like the steps. Gives a little ‘privacy’ from the sidewalk.
I am so glad that your dentist appointment went okay
- I hope that was for the next six months. Or do you have to go back?
Hope you will have a wonderful Saturday.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Oops - my photo is up too
April 20th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
I’m very tired. I have to be up at 4am and it’s 9:30pm already, but my photo is up. A cautious step, over steps.
April 20th, 2007 at 8:43 pm

Stepping through Edinburgh
April 20th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
That must be bittersweet looking at your great-grandmother’s house knowing that someone else is living there. I do not look forward to the day in which that happens to my grandmother’s house. Thank you for sharing such a touching photo.
Mine’s up, too! And all that I can say is, “I love Paris in the Springtime…”
April 20th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
I think I “stepped” up this week with my wishes for a great week for everyone!
April 20th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
MInes up ! Details on the first Christopher Family blogging Scavenger hunt are up as well! Hope you participate
April 20th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Looks like your grandmother had a very nice home. I have steps leading up to my yard from the road and they can be a real pain in the behind in the winter when things freeze over! Not to mention when you have to lug groceries into the house!
April 20th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
Mine’s up. That’s a sad blast from the past, Tn but at least someone is lovingly caring for it.

April 20th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
I have far more steps to climb ! The steps to the Lion of Waterloo
****
In Brooklyn there are always steps leading to the entrance door and I saw that everywhere in England too. Maybe somebody took this style to Nashville ?
April 20th, 2007 at 10:12 pm
Oops. I mistyped my first response!~
PLease come visit and check out the Scavenger Hunt starting May 1st!
April 20th, 2007 at 10:14 pm
I’m new! Thanks to Jenn in Holland I found out about you all and look forward to being a part of this.
The steps are at a converted factory about an hour from my house. There was a huge rain storm going on outside and the surrounding rivers were on the verge of flooding. I’m sure those steps have seen much more.
April 20th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
Hi there: Happy to hear that your dental adventures were not too horrible.
My photo is posted . . . it’s an “oldie but goodie” from way back in the dark corners of the archive.

April 20th, 2007 at 10:21 pm
Okay, my entry for this week’s photo hunt now up! Here’s hoping for as many visits and comments from my fellow Photo Hunters as I got last week!
April 20th, 2007 at 10:22 pm
I wouldn’t like to climb those steps every day, but I think it looks rather quaint. Your photo is interesting to me because I thought about trying to find one of my grandmother’s house because of the steps that led to her front porch, but then I would not have been the one to take the photo, so I changed my mind. I also thought about posting the photo I took of a secret service agent cleaning the steps to an outdoor stage for a campaign rally with paper towels, but didn’t want to set off any political storms. However, I’m not sure that my final choice of step photographs will be any less controversial!
Have a great weekend and enjoy that new car!
April 20th, 2007 at 10:23 pm
It’s always fun to drive my houses from our past. They always seem so much smaller.
Mine’s up too
April 20th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
I like visiting houses I used to live in or other relatives used to live in. They never look the same as I remember.

I have steps to enjoy donuts
Nice steps shot, TNChick!
April 20th, 2007 at 11:08 pm
My grandparents had a house similar to this with the steps up to a porch. It was the house my mother was born in. When we were in Roanoke for Grandma’s funeral we visited all their former homes as well as the home we lived in while there. So many memories!
April 20th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
I see the steps up to the yard! It looks like a lovely house. All that greenery is lovely.
My steps are up.
April 20th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
About the baby shower, if you take several different chocolate candy bars, melt a portion of each one individually, put them in a baby diaper, with a # on the diapers. Then they have to guess what kind of candy bars are in each diaper. If you put them in the diaper right after you melt them and kind of smear it a little, it does look pretty nasty, but it was so fun to watch a bunch of women smelling baby diapers.
By the way my photo is up, hope you have a great weekend everyone!
April 20th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
What beautiful steps and greenery! Mine is up as well.
April 20th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
I certainly understand the way time constraints interfere with plans to create images. I love the hedges in the picture. It reminds me of yards in the neighborhood I grew up in.
My STEPS picture is up. Took a bit of searching through my collection of previously made pictures to find something on topic.

My photo is up too.
April 20th, 2007 at 11:47 pm
Very cool steps indeed…. Glad I don’t have to deal with any at my house though.
I remembered to play this week!
April 20th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
I like the bushes. I too have a different view of steps. 18 years ago today I took some pretty big steps.
April 20th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
Kinda cool steps you have. Infact i have problem looking for the steps. lol. I’ve posted up steps from Kodak Theater when I was in Walk of Fame. Enjoy.

I felt bitter sweet when I went back and visited my grandparents house. Yes, it’s nice that someone new is updating it and giving it a new life, but it’s also a bit sad.
Mines up!

Love your grandmother’s old house. Always loved steps leading up to a front door. You don’t see that very much on the newer homes.
Mine is up.
April 21st, 2007 at 6:29 am
Not too shabby for not having time.
Mine’s up- I couldn’t wait to use my photo.
Thanks for this theme.
April 21st, 2007 at 6:39 am
I’ve got my entry for this week’s theme online ..
I found this one a bit challenging too, and took several photos. I finally settled on the one. Have a great weekend everyone!
April 21st, 2007 at 6:42 am
Friends of ours have their house up on a hill and just climbing up the steps to get to the front door is a workout itself. I played today too.
April 21st, 2007 at 6:53 am
It’s always hard when someone makes changes to a house we remember a certain way.
I’ve got my “Steps” up today. I’m on the road and something goofy happened to the fonts. Dh (the tech geek) is at home and can’t help. But at least it’s posted!
April 21st, 2007 at 7:08 am
Like your grandmother’s house, most of the houses in the Philippines have steps going to the front of the house especially in the provinces.
My ’steps photos’ are up!
April 21st, 2007 at 7:09 am
Almost posted the wrong theme…AGAIN! But, I just changed it to make my image fit.

April 21st, 2007 at 8:09 am
Hi, I’m playing for the first time this week, and mine is up.
We have houses downtown that have steps like that going into the yards - those houses are so beautiful. I guess it’s not common anymore to do that.
April 21st, 2007 at 8:12 am
96th comment! My, this is getting so popular! My pic is up
April 21st, 2007 at 8:24 am
We used to live on a street where everyone had steps from the sidewalk into their yard — it was kinda neat.
Glad your dentist appt. went well and is all over now. I need to get there myself but keep putting it off.
April 21st, 2007 at 8:29 am
I used to really like driving past houses I (or people I knew) had lived in. The changes were often surprising and usually for the better. Now it just reminds me how old I am that I’ve lived so many places.
April 21st, 2007 at 8:34 am
Good morning and happy Saturday
My photo is up…
April 21st, 2007 at 8:36 am
This week Ellie took the picture and 4 year old Savannah did the caption because she couldn’t stand to be left out of the photo hunter game!
April 21st, 2007 at 8:39 am
Those steps are hard to see! It is always interesting to witness how homes change with their owners–sometimes it is a little sad too
I did a different take on steps this week.

Very unusual to have steps up to the garden, but

Hey, at least I’m trying!

Didn’t think I’d make it…my puppy chewed my network cable! Your photo brings back memories of my own Grandmother, her house is now torn down, though. There are things that you remember when you are a child, like I remember her front steps, and the big oak tree in her field.
Mine is up and cable is repaired….whew!

Finally, I remembered to put it up, and this is one of my favorite prompts. . sigh, had to settle for only two kinds of steps, nature called - no, not that, the mulch waiting to be shoveled from the trailer. Have a great day.
Glad your dentist appt was OK! Love the steps on your grandmother’s former home.
